Every day, the same scene plays out in agencies across the country. Call or message on Telegram: “Hello, I need an online store for 5,000 products. I want to use Tilda because it’s fast, beautiful and the designer recommended it to me.”
At this stage, many marketers and CTOs experience pain in their temple. Why? Because this is equivalent to saying: “I want to transport 50 tons of bricks in a Cabriolet. It will be stylish and a breeze.”
Tilda is, of course, a brilliant product of its time. It revolutionized the world of landing pages, allowing designers to implement the most daring ideas without programmers. But when we talk about serious things E-commerce (e-commerce), using Tilda is often a strategic mistake that costs a business money, customers and nerves.
In this article, we will analyze in as much detail as possible why Tilda is not suitable for online stores, what pitfalls await you during SEO, and why professionals choose other paths.
Part 1. Architectural dead end: Why the designer is not a CMS
To understand the essence of the problem, you need to distinguish between tools. Tilde is a constructor for visual presentation of information (Frontend). Online store is a complex logical machine (Backend), database, order processing, balance synchronization, integration.
1. Database and catalog problem
An online store is not just pictures. This is the structure. Products have characteristics (attributes): color, size, material, equipment. In normal CMS (Bitrix, WordPress+WooCommerce, OpenCart, ModX) this is implemented through relational databases.
On Tilda, a catalog is essentially a set of static pages or records in a simple database.
- Example: You have a T-shirt in 5 colors and 4 sizes. In a normal system, this is one product (SKU) with trade offers. On Tilda, you often have to get out of it by creating either 20 cards (which creates duplicates) or using complex modules that slow down the admin panel.
- When there are more than 100–200 products, Tilda begins to choke. Managing such a catalog turns into hell: searching for products, mass editing of prices (promotions, sales) becomes torture.
2. Lack of a full shopping cart and checkout
Tilda does not have its own, native and flexible e-commerce logic. It is farmed out to external services (Ecwid, Tilda Pay, modules from partners).
- Nuance: Once a customer clicks “Checkout,” they are often taken to a different domain or popup that may be styled differently than your site. This reduces trust.
- There is no flexibility in setting up delivery logic. Do you need complex delivery: “Within the Moscow Ring Road - free, but only if the order is before 15:00 and the weight is less than 5 kg, otherwise +500rub”? It is either impossible to implement this on Tilda, or it costs a lot of money for custom JS code.
3. Integration hell
A modern store does not live in a vacuum. It must communicate with 1C (warehouse), with CRM (Bitrix24, AmoCRM), with delivery services (SDEK, PEC), with email services. On Tilda, all these integrations are done through webhooks and third-party modules. The system works like a Swiss watch until the first platform update or a third-party service API failure. And you cannot “get under the hood” and fix it yourself - you are dependent on the developers of the constructor.
Part 2. SEO and Tilda: Why search engines don’t see your store
The most common myth among clients: “I have a friend promoting a landing page on Tilda, and he is in the top on Yandex, which means the store will work.” Stop. A landing page with 5 screens and an online store with 500 pages are two different beasts.
1. Load Speed and Core Web Vitals (CWV)
As of 2021, Google has officially introduced Core Web Vitals as a critical ranking factor. Yandex is not lagging behind, systematically introducing similar metrics. What does it mean? Search engines evaluate not just content, but also how fast And comfortable the user sees it.
Problem #1: Code overload. To make Tilda universal and allow you to layout anything, it loads a huge library of styles and scripts. Even an empty page on Tilda weighs more than a full-fledged html website on a simple CMS.
- LCP (Largest Contentful Paint - loading speed of main content) on Tilda is often “lame”. Due to heavy images and scripts, blocks take a long time to load. Yandex penalizes (punishes) slow sites.
Problem #2: Zero Blocks. Designers love Zero Block for its freedom. But from a code point of view, Zero Block is a canvas where every element is positioned absolutely. This creates a soup of code that is difficult for browsers to render and difficult for bots to understand. Often in Zero Block text is loaded not as text, but as a graphic element or hard-to-read DOM, which kills semantics.
2. Duplicate pages and “Garbage” in the index
This is perhaps the biggest headache for an SEO specialist working with Tilda. Tilda creates a huge number of technical pages automatically:
- Filter and sort pages (which are often open for indexing by default).
- Pagination pages (where there are no canonical meta tags).
- Product variant pages.
If you do not fine-tune the robots.txt file and meta tags (and on Tilda, access to global robots is limited), Yandex begins to index “technical garbage”.
- Result: The search engine sees 5,000 pages of your site, 4,000 of them are duplicates or dummies. Conclusion: the site is of low quality, pessimization (decreased in search results).
3. Problem with the semantic core and micro markup
Good promotion requires a clear heading structure (H1, H2, H3).
- In Tilda, you can't always control the order of headings. A designer can make beautiful text in the “Text” block and accidentally put it in an H1, when the H1 should be alone on the page and contain the main query.
- The markup scheme (Schema.org, Open Graph) is implemented in Tilda in a basic way. Do you want to withdraw to Yandex.Market? You need advanced JSON-LD markup with reviews, prices and balances. On Tilda, this requires installing complex blocks or codes that break with any sneeze.
4. Filters and SEO-Friendly URL
In a normal online store (for example, on Bitrix), the filter parameters look like this: site.ru/catalog/mujskaya-odezhda/filter/color-is-blue/apply/ Or better yet: site.ru/catalog/mujskaya_odezhda/golubaya/
On Tilda, filters often work as dynamic loading without changing the URL. Or the URL turns into a bunch of meaningless characters. This means that you you will not be able to promote categories for low-frequency queries (for example, “buy a red long-sleeve men’s T-shirt”). Because the page for this product/filter does not have its own permanent, readable address.
Part 3. Economics: Cheaper does not mean more profitable
Let's do the math. Many people choose Tilda to save money.
- Tilda license (per year) - X rubles.
- Paid modules (filters, chat bots, CRM) - Y rubles.
- Integrations and configuration - Z rubles.
After a year: You paid the same amount for rent, but the site did not become your property. You just rented land online. If you decide to leave Tilda, you will lose:
- Design (it cannot just be exported, it is “hardwired” into the platform).
- Structure (product cards are linked to the system).
- Often - accumulated domain indicators, since the URL structure changes when moving.
Example from DOM-Marketing practice: A client came to us selling building mixtures. He had a store on Tilda + Ecwid.
- Problems: The site loaded in 9 seconds. Phone call from website did not work in Safari (iPhone). Product filters "visla". Traffic from Yandex was close to zero, although advertising campaigns (Yandex.Direct) ran for six months.
- Solution: We developed a custom store for it (Backbone + React) with a clean architecture.
- Result: The speed increased to 1.5 seconds. Conversion increased 3 times. SEO traffic after 4 months surpassed the cost of Tilda’s paid subscription for the entire last year.
Part 4. Psychology of trust and sales
An online store is essentially your digital sales representative. Imagine that you come to an expensive boutique, and the window is made of cardboard, and the doors creak. Tilda often gives itself away with its distinctive animation and standard fonts. A business that cannot afford an individual website is subconsciously perceived by the client as a “business on its knees.”
Custom development or a powerful CMS allows you to:
- Create a non-standard UX (User Experience), tailored specifically to your audience.
- Implement loyalty programs (bonus points, customer levels).
- Integrate B2B portals for wholesalers with personal discounts. On Tilda this is either impossible or costs more than developing a website from scratch.
Part 5. When is Tilda normal?
To be objective, let's say where Tilda is good.
- Landing pages for advertising. If you have one offer, service or information product.
- Promo pages. Launch of a new book, course, event.
- Business cards. Portfolio website for a photographer, designer, lawyer (if a catalog of works is not needed there).
- Prototyping. To show the investor what the site will look like.
But if you are going to sell products, scale, integrate with 1C and fight for the TOP 10 in Yandex, Tilda is a dead end.
Conclusion: Who can you trust to develop your business?
Creating an online store is an investment. This is an investment in an asset that will work for you for 5-10 years. Don't skimp on the foundation of your digital business by using kids' build tools (comparable to LEGO) if you're building a factory.
Professional development (be it Bitrix, ModX, Laravel or Python/Django) gives you:
- Freedom. You can make any function.
- Speed. Clean code is always faster than constructors.
- Possession. This is your code, your domain, your data.
- SEO. Full control over every tag, redirect and robots.txt file.
